  • Three rescued from barge by Greenwood Search & Rescue squadron
    Three men were rescued from a barge 25 nautical miles north west of Yarmouth NS Wednesday afternoon by a CH-149 Cormorant helicopter from 413 (Transport and Rescue) Squadron based at 14 Wing Greenwood, N.S.

  • Canadian Forces and economy get boost from contract to upgrade military aircraft
    The Minister of Public Works and Government Services, the Minister of National Defence and Minister for the Atlantic Gateway, and the Minister of Industry, announced that the Government of Canada awarded a contract to Lockheed Martin for the purchase of ten structural life extension wing kits for the CP-140 Aurora aircraft.

  • New CH-148 Cyclone successfully completes first flight
    The first Canadian CH-148 Cyclone helicopter, being developed by Sikorsky Aircraft Corporation as a replacement for the CH-124 Sea King helicopter fleet, has completed its first flight successfully at Sikorsky's Development Flight Center in Florida.

    As the early morning Afghan sun struggled to rise above the rugged mountains, two Canadian-contracted Mi-8 helicopters lifted off from Kandahar Air Field carrying valuable supplies to troops in Canadian forward operating bases in Kandahar Province.

  • Ten thousand hours in the clouds
    November 4, 2008. It was just another flight for the mighty CC-177 Globemaster: fly into Kandahar Airfield, carrying a load of humanitarian aid supplies for the Afghan people, and return to its staging base. The "Bisons" of 429 Transport Squadron ("Bison Squadron), whose home base is 8 Wing Trenton, Ont., have become extremely familiar with this type of mission.

  • Sea King assists HMCS Regina
    A shore-based Sea King helicopter and crew from 443 Maritime Helicopter Squadron were tasked in support of HMCS Regina as she sailed from Esquimalt Harbour, B.C. on Oct. 20, bound for southern California to take part in a Combined Task Group Exercise (TGEX).

  • 19 MSS Receives Signed Banners from the Comox Valley
    On the 29 Oct, 19 Wing Commander, Colonel Fred Bigelow, visited the members of 19 Mission Support Squadron (19 MSS) presently deployed at Camp Mirage. Colonel Bigelow used that visit to present the members of 19 MSS with the banners that were signed by the Comox Valley communities during the Red Friday Rally of Sept. 12.

  • Flight in Three Dimensions
    For ?Take Your Kids to Work' day, the Air Force opened their simulation laboratory at the Visualization and Simulation Centre, located at Carleton University, Ottawa, to grade 9 students. I got the opportunity to fly a Cessna airplane and a Griffon helicopter, drive an automobile, and see Dallas and Tokyo, all within a few dozen feet of each other.

  • Game on at VSIM
    In a period of one hour, six grade students crashed a plane, flew a helicopter, visited Tokyo and saw Mount Everest. Not a bad experience for the annual Take Our Kids to Work Day.
