This famous heritage site began as an airfield in the First World War and also played a vital role in the Second World War, firstly as an RAF fighter station and later as an American fighter base. The American Air Museum
AirSpace AirSpace is Duxford's remarkable new £25 million exhibition of British and Commonwealth aviation, celebrating our rich military and civilian heritage. Discover for yourself the who, what, when, why and how of aircraft as you pass along the interactive Exhibition Gallery, before heading out across the Skybridge to meet, face to face, over 30 of the rarest and most treasured military and civil British and Commonwealth aircraft, some suspended above you as if in flight.
As well as an extensive selection of jet and piston aero engines, a wide selection of armaments, and other large objects, AirSpace is home to remarkable aircraft such as the Mosquito, Lysander, Lancaster, TSR-2, Lightning, Canberra, York, Vulcan, Swordfish, Spitfire Mk. 24, Sunderland, Oxford, Anson, Harrier, Buccaneer and Tornado. Duxford's famous Concorde is also on display and open to the public for internal viewing. Exciting, engaging and inspirational, AirSpace is a must for old and young alike. Please note that AirSpace will be closed all day on Monday 8 December. Land Warfare Hall
The Land Warfare Hall houses the majority of the Imperial War Museum’s collection of military vehicles, reflecting the technological advances in twentieth century warfare. Exhibits are arranged in realistic tableaux, taking the visitor on a journey from the First World War to the Gulf War and beyond. Several of the vehicles in this exhibition are maintained in running condition and can sometimes be seen in the vehicle running area behind the Hall. The Land Warfare Hall also contains The Forgotten War, the story of the conflict in Burma and the Far East, and the Normandy Experience, an exhibition about D-Day and the liberation of Europe. Don’t miss the ‘Monty’ exhibition, featuring the caravans Field Marshal Montgomery used as a mobile tactical headquarters throughout the campaign in north-west Europe. |
