Another quiet month, but
I know membership is going to become increasingly busy over the next few weeks
with the Members' Fly Day June 16 and then the St. Thomas Wings 'n Wheels
air/car show on June 23 and 24. The Members' Fly Day is an opportunity for
those with gift certificates to use them. Come early so we can be there ready
when the planes are ready to start flying. I have had many inquiries again this
month for gift certificates, especially for Father's Day. See you at the hangar
this weekend or at the St. Thomas airshow.

CHAA’s merchandizing activities are taking on a broader scope and will become a
key part in the financial contribution to the organization.
Stores at the Hangar:
All our merchandise is available for purchase at the hangar on Meeting nights,
most Tuesdays & Saturdays, as well as at special events. Please contact Bruce
Tapp or myself.
Grampa’s Attic in Ingersol at 149 Thames Street:
CHAA member Tom Smith carries a selection of CHAA merchandise at his store which
is open Monday to Saturday.
Web sales and mail order:
CHAA members Walther Irie and Bill Tully are working on a complete redesign of
CHAA’s website combining the Dive Recovery site and Harvards.com. The initial
focus will be the Online Storefront and catalogue. In time I am looking for this
to be a profitable sales outlet.
Airshows and other public venues:
Our Stores trailer, a large tent and tables is ready to go. Due to
cancellations, we have lost out on a couple of shows; so we must maximize on the
opportunities left to us for this season. The big events will be the St Thomas
Wings & Wheels Show on June 23/24, Geneseo July 14/15. For both these shows, we
will set up the Friday afternoon and pack up Sunday evening. These can be and
often are busier times than during most of the show!
If you are interested in working with us this
season we will require assistance at
the airshows (St. Thomas, Geneseo and Kitchener), at the hangar and with the
development and running of our web business. If you have any questions and/or
wish to help, please drop me an email or call.

Ops Room Bookings
should be done through Roy at email
above.
group bookings: We have
conducted several tours through our facilities over the past months involving
people of all ages, and there are more tours scheduled in the next few months.
If there is anyone out
there who would be interested in acting as a tour guide please contact
Roy at info above.
A weather station
has been installed on the east side of the Restorations hangar and is feeding
into the Flight Operations room. This equates to a little less guessing on what
the wind speed and direction are doing.
Thanks to Bill Scott
for his work on creating blue and yellow signage for each of CHAA’s buildings.
We have acquired two flag poles
which are to be installed on the North side of the Administration Centre
building. For now we will be running the Canadian Flag, the Red Ensign and the
Roundel. It may be time to develop a Canadian Harvard Aircraft Association flag;
any artistic talents out there?
Situated across the front of the
Restorations Hangar,
the Association’s name has been painted yellow. Thank you, Murray and Don.
Great job!
For those doing their spring
cleaning and intending
to bring donations from their garage or basement, please check with either Bill
Ritchie or Ron Jay first to be sure it is something CHAA can use in the Hangar,
as space is at a premium.

Saturday, June 2
provided an opportunity for Harvard Hawks Ted
Shaw, Callum Donnelly, and Kristin Dipple to go for a backseat ride in a
Harvard. Several pilots took part in this day; Brandon Zimmerman was there to
demonstrate the Link Trainer; Cornell, Heather and Mike were part of the ground
crew; and Maureen looked after the paperwork. Thank you to all who assisted in
making this such a successful event. The smiles tell it all!

Saturday, June 2:
we had a BBQ where Tillsonburg’s own Rick
Haines once again charged just $5 for a complete BBQ meal! Several CHAA families
were in attendance. They toured the grounds, watched the planes (we even caught
a practice run of the Aerobatic Team...always a thrill!), ate a great lunch, met
astronaut and CHAA pilot Bjarni Tryggvason, talked to friends, went for rides
and viewed the action. Another successful day...great to see so many families
at the hangar!
Lost and Found:
A gold necklace was found on the grounds on Saturday, June 2. If you’ve lost
same, please email

May 26, Flypast at Downsview
CHAA performed a two plane flypast over the parade during the Downsview event.
Following is an excerpt of a letter received by CHAA pilot Tony Donnelly from
Ken A’Hern CD Major, Commanding Officer of 892 Snowy Owl Squadron:
“...many thanks for the fly-by. It was
one of the highlights of the parade. All enjoyed the show and the timing was
right on. It's always great to see these aircraft in flight and the sound is
unmistakable!!
On behalf of the cadets and staff of 892 Snowy Owl Squadron thanks to you, the
pilots and crew of the Canadian Harvard Aircraft Association for the show and we
hope to see you this year at the CIAS.”
May 5&6, SPITFIRE HEAVEN
Early in May 2007, Vintage Wings of Canada hosted a Spitfire Pilot Training
Course, and CHAA members Pete Spence, Kent Beckham and Leon Evans were invited
guests.
To read of their experience, go to: http://www.vintagewings.ca/page?s=63&lang=en-CA
and under RECENT STORIES: read “Spitfire 101”
To read Kent’s thoughts on the day and view some great photos, click on: “Living the Dream - N. Kent
Beckham”. As always, Kent has spoken
from the heart and shared his excitement with us. Thanks, Kent.
Congratulations to each of these gentlemen who obviously have a great deal of
aviation expertise to be invited to be part of such a thrilling experience. Our
hats are off to you.
-------------------------------------------------
As always, our thoughts are with
all those who have recently been ill, had surgery or have lost loved ones. We
hold you in our hearts and wish you better days ahead.
Until next time, clear skies, safe flights and
smooth landings!
