Pat Hanna, once again, put together an excellent event and the evening
was enjoyed by around 160 people. Buzzy’s Catering fed us to the max; Ila
Fallowfield did a great job with the flower arrangements; Len Fallowfield and
Ray McKenney brought models for all to enjoy; guests were greeted at the door by
Ila Fallowfield and Marion Bennell; Walt Irie and Maureen Merlo (and others) ran
the ticket auction; Charley Fox and the Dive Team each had wonderful displays
(which were most informative); Eric Dumigan created a wonderful slide show from
his Geneseo 2005 shots and those sent to him from members (4 CDs left,
$10

); and the auctions and cash donations brought in just under
$6000 for CHAA.
Our live auction
was run this year by auctioneer Aden Weber of St Jacobs; once again Eva
Hillsdon’s butter tarts became the talk of the night (they were closely guarded
on the way home and thoroughly enjoyed throughout the next week...not a crumb
went to waste...and that’s the way it should be when you pay $34.62 per tart!)
Our guest speaker,
Lt. Col. Dean Wright was an engaging individual who kept the attention of all;
the videos he brought along (actual footage from inside his cockpit) were unique
and highly entertaining.
The Organizing Committee wishes to
acknowledge and thank the following businesses and individuals
for their donations to the 2006 auctions: Tillsonburg Public Library, Alex Smith
Photography (Woodstock), Coyles (Tillsonburg), Waterloo Wellington Flight Centre

Congratulations
to the following members who recently completed and passed their comprehensive
test for the Service Unit: John Brown, Steve Chihrin, Kip Davis and Jim
Sidorchuk. Their addition to the list of current qualified members (which
includes members who completed their re-currency test for 2006) will be an
asset. Thanks, Guys; a job well done.
With five Harvards coming on line
very shortly, the Service Unit is going to be extremely busy this year
with increased number of Fly Days, the Formation Training Weekend and the
regular flying agenda. We are certainly going to need everyone available from
Service for fuelling, ground control, fireguards and running the tow tractor.
As our aircraft numbers have grown,
the Service Unit has realized we are in short supply of 9.0 kg. fire
extinguishers for start ups. Any member wishing to
donate toward the purchase of two of these extinguishers, please
contact Al.
Special congratulations
go out Ron Rice for his recent 10 year pin. Ron is one of our Service group
members and our tow tractor instructor.
The Toronto Aerospace Museum at
Downsview Park in North Toronto will be the site for a symposium on the de
Havilland Canada DHC-1 Chipmunk training aircraft on the Friday, May 26, 2006 in

27-28. This event will celebrate the 60th anniversary of the first
flight of this famous Toronto-designed aircraft. To date, over twenty Chipmunk
owners have agreed to participate in the weekend’s fly-in and Chipmunk
homecoming activities. For complete details and/or to purchase tickets to this
event, go to
